Attending to oneself is one of the greatest gifts you give the world.

We have been fed mixed messages regarding self care and its importance to our personal and communal vitality.

Let me remind us... attention to our needs and indications of exhaustion, pain, and avoidance is vital to our health.

It can often feel impossible to find space to carve out to practice self attentiveness...

but let me remind you...

you had time to scroll through the internet and find this post...

Close this. Get a meditation app.

Begin now.

Or keep reading.

You have time. It’s there.

Who’s voice is it telling you that self care is selfish?

The consequences of self neglect, over-functioning, nervous system fatigue, avoidance, and denial can be severe.

Your family needs you to take care of you.

Your partner needs you to take care of you.

Your co-workers need you to take care of you.

Your boss needs you to take care of you.

Your clients need you to take care of you.

Your parents need you to take care of you.

Your kids need you to take care of you.

Your justice and equality work needs you to take care of you.

Your community/congregation/friends need you to take care of you.

You are loving your loved ones well when you create space to attend to self.

Self care is community care.

Don’t go overboard. Find the balance.

Meditate.

Pay that bill on your counter.

Make that doctors appointment.

Have that hard conversation.

Take a day off.

Turn off your phone.

Take a bath.

Pray. Listen.

Cry.

Get a babysitter.

Feed yourself whole foods.

Drink more water.

Move your body.

Call a friend and tell the truth.

Cry some more if needed.

See a psychiatrist.

Take your meds.

Journal.

Set that boundary.

Say no.

Say yes.

Be kind to yourself.

GO TO THERAPY.

Read. Breathe. Be.

Take Care
